Setting Up cPanel SSH

Prerequisites

• Access to the cPanel for the site in question
• 1Password SSH Agent configured.

Steps

1. In 1Password, New Item > SSH Key

2. Add Private Key > Generate New Key > Generate > Save

   • IMPORTANT Each vault not using a pre-configured vault requires its own record under Configure SSH Agent....

3. Copy the public key

4. In cPanel, Security > SSH Access > Manage SSH Keys

5. Click Import Key, give the key a descriptive name and then paste in the public key. (The other sections can be left blank)

6. Back on the Manage SSH Keys screen, click Manage next to the new key and then click Authorize.

7. The site can now be accessed via

   ssh cPanelUserName@serverName.com

   Where cPanelUserName is the username used to log in to cPanel, and serverName.com is the host of the website.
