Useful Tips

Templates:

  • Saving a template “stamps” it or “bakes” it. This means that
    • anything that is not ON the email itself will be removed (Questionable…)
    • any snippets will be merged/flattened and will not be updated when the snippet changes

Features you will probably miss and forget about:

  • Rename Modules by clicking the gear in the sidebar
  • You CAN DRAG THE MODULES AROUND in the sidebar, just hover over them to show the grabby bits

Localization

  • Include {{my.Locale-Helper}} at the top of any email to set up date and number formatting for the locale.
  • Use {{my.START-Section-English}} or {{my.START-Section-French}} to mark the beginning of a section containing that language. It will set the locale for use with number and date formatting. It will display if the user is set to that language or if it is defaulted.
  • Use {{my.ONLY_IF-Section_English}} to indicate content that should only be displayed in an English or {{my.ONLY_IF-Section_French}} for a French section (as defined above).
  • Use {{my.ONLY_IF-No_Language}} to indicate content that should only be displayed if the user doesn’t have their language set. (Note that these are not affected by the language section that they are in). This will typically be used for dividers or prompts for the user to set their language.
  • Use {{my.ENDIF}} to mark the end of one of the above indicators.

Velocity:

  • Default segments are == "" in preview, but == “Default” in actual emails.
  • A variable that doesn’t exist will display as text
  • Any external fields being used must be checked in the sidebar for each token that uses them
  • Variables and blocks span across script tokens (ie. you can start an if statement in one token and then end it in another.

Follow the Naming Convention!

  • Images

    • FORMAT: RT-{Program_Name}-{Image_Purpose}-{Dimensions_WxH}-{Image_Name}-{Language}.[jpg,png,gif,etc]
    • EXAMPLE: “RT-WelcomeCampaign-Hero-1200x300-Email1_ManLooksAtDog-EN.jpg”
  • Tokens (Generally, tokens looks like this: {{my.token}}

    • FORMAT: {Campaign_Type}-{Email_Description}-{What_Variable_Name_Does_This_Store}-{Language}
    • EXAMPLE: TS-FollowUp2-Preheader-EN
    • EXAMPLE: TS-FollowUp2-Preheader-FR
  • Notes:

    • We probably do not NEED to have the Language at the end of either of these if it’s English, however this keeps consistency.
